Charleston elects administrator: Msgr. Martin Laughlin

The College of Consultors of the Diocese of Charleston met today and elected Msgr. Martin T. Laughlin, pastor of St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton SC, and one of the Vicars General under Bishop Baker, as Administrator while the See is Vacant. (Announcement at the Diocesan webpage).

As Msgr. Laughlin said, we should all pray that there is a new bishop soon.

Indeed. Pray without ceasing.

Today, as I left Birmingham, I sat on the plane near retired Bishop Thompson. I know there was some talk about asking Bp. Thompson to serve as Administrator (assuming a retired Bishop is eligible). He was dressed in a golf shirt and a sweater with a golf logo on it, and was reading the latest issue of Golfing magazine.

Somehow, I don't think he was too interested in coming out of retirement.

I can't say I blame him.
