From the FDR Memorial

... saw this on the evening of Veterans Day as we wandered around the memorials at the National Mall.

Well, he didn't necessarily hate it all that much.

Certainly his favourite time before he came to be the hero of the western world during WWII was when he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy during WWI and he thoroughly enjoyed war then.

But this suggests a far greater measure of cynicism than I would like to be accused of: he was certainly the towering figure of the 20th century. Funny how latter day isolationists like to carry on about Churchill while ignoring FDR: Churchill unashamedly idolised FDR.
