Here's an anecdote shared at lunch, about a missionary priest, back in the day, driving around the rural South. He comes across a photo of Pope John XXIII in his pontifical vestments in a diner, far from the nearest Catholic, let alone the nearest Catholic Church, and is highly intrigued. He's not wearing his collar (else he'd not have been allowed to enter the diner!), and as he's paying the bill, he points to the photo. "Quite an interesting photo. Who is it?"
Pat comes the reply:
"Oh, that's President Truman in his full Masonic regalia." :-D
