You think I brought too much stuff?

Well I'm here, in my new home after an uneventful drive with a fully loaded SUV up I-95.

A few notes:
1) Poetic justice does occur. After last week's "D--n Yankee" incident (upon being cut off by a car with NJ tags), I got a rental with ... you got it ... New Jersey tags.

2) I still have way too much stuff. I think I could give away at least two more suitcases full of clothes. I mean, I used like 10% of all the clothes I own the past three months in India. Granted, I didn't have my woollens with me, but really, do I need all of this? Sheesh.

3) I am just way overwhelmed right now. And exhausted (being woken up at 4 am by thunderstorms didn't help).

The new life begins. Bring on the prayers please! I need them.

Oh yeah, I'm really homesick. :-| Posted by Picasa

You're missed here, too, G. And the prayers are there. AEB

Dude, what kind of packing list did they give you? lol

That's about twice what I brought to Portland!

Packing list? Hmm. "No car." That was pretty much it. Oh and "computers welcome, we have broadband." And "very limited storage space."

Most of those boxes contain books and photo frames and computer stuff. Two contained woollens. The rest? C R A P! Ugh ... :-)

One of my buddies who was a novice last year assured me that he'd brought twice as much as me last year ... I don't believe it. :)

I'm sure the SJ's take packing lists a lot more seriously :)

The view through the window looks great! :-)

That makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!

I also did not get a packing list. I got "bring some clothes, books, whatever you think you need to make your room your own." So I of course shipped way too much stuff.

One of my housemates here in Seattle was back in NJ on retreat and saw my new novitiate home. She also saw my new room ... and ALL MY BOXES.

Alas. We're on the path to simplicity.

Say hi to Fr. Steve for me!! And you're definitely in my prayers. I'll be in your shoes one week from today looking at my many boxes in my small room.

Thanks for the comments, y'all ... :-)

@georgette: Oh I know -- that's exactly how I felt when I closed up the apartment in May before going to India -- unloaded tons of things at His House. And on Monday, I gave away nearly four more boxes of books ... and I still have too much. :: sigh :: ... :-)

@susan: glad to know I'm not the only one too! :)

Where is the bed??? I do think it is poetic justice that you got New Jersey plates though. That is just funny. But hey, they are going to break you down first. But after that, I am sure that they will only build you up a lot stronger. Our prayers are with you.

Just think how often you'll be able to exercise the gifts of mercy and generosity!

There's an old saying that three moves are as good as a fire (in paring down one's belongings.) I'm not sure how that works in your case...Three fires (2 bats, one carpet) are as good as one move?

PS: You haven't seen a move until you've moved Izzy & me. Let's hope that doesn't get repeated anytime soon.
