Monkeying with the Delhi Metro ...

... taking a quick break from negotiations on the condo in Pune ... couldn't resist passing this story on! India trains hire monkey patrol.
In an effort to keep monkeys out of the New Delhi subways, authorities have called in one of the few animals known to scare the creatures — a fierce-looking primate called the langur, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported Wednesday.
Langurs are pretty aggressive ... I thought they'd be more of a menace than the ordinary bandar. Back in 7th grade, I remember this day we were all locked in the class rooms because of a huge langur, on the loose in the hallways. It bounded up and down, crashing against the locked doors, resulting in scores of high pitched shrieks. Can't recall how it ended ... maybe it went away, or they drove it away. Of course, monkeys are common everywhere (haven't seen one in Bombay really) ... even in the house at Baroda, during the mango season, one can hear them on the roof. As my dad says ... purvaj aavi gaya -- "the ancestors are here." :-)
