The four last remaining Shakers ...

... apparently they inhabit a little village in Maine, and are making plans to ensure that their land doesn't get converted into a sub-division or otherwise developed after they're gone. Interesting how much they're like a monastic community. The Last Ones Standing (Boston Globe).

And now it really WILL be impossible to explain Sydney Carter's ludicrous and asinine '60s hymn "Lord of the dance" set to the Shaker tune "Simple gifts." (How could he possibly have rationalised introducing a hymn to Nadaraja into Christian worship, not that many people ever caught that layer of allusion?)
