Spotted at a Bombay intersection ...

Actually, this was smack opposite the Mahim Catholic Church, where S.B Road and Caddle Road intersect, just before Mahim Creek. The Mahim Church is famous for its novenas, which draw thousands of all faiths. What I found interesting was this: while this billboard is clearly based on Phil 2 and Ps. 118 (though "every hands shall raise to the heavens" is not in the text), nowhere is the name of Christ actually mentioned! I mean the very next line is "... that Jesus Christ is LORD!" If one is going to go through the trouble of puttings this up at a crowded intersection, why shy away from the Main Point of the passage? To the average passerby, the passage will make no sense. I wonder how many Catholics (who're generally pretty biblically illiterate) will even get it. Hmm ... Posted by Picasa

Ah well, Scotch Presbyterians gaily sing "At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow,/Every tongue confess him, king of glory now" (indeed it was the opening hymn at my grandpa's defunctive orgies) and they don't bow to nobody. I suspect that this is a considerably more sophisticated message than you give them credit for -- devious, and good on 'em.
