On the road ...

... well, the highways in the sky. After a day's delay (thunderstorms cancelling flights and so on), I'm off to the airport for the flight to Newark and thence (non-stop) to New Delhi.

Right in the middle of the summer. And the mango season. :)

Is there indeed a direct flight from Newark to Delhi. Then perhaps there is merit in the Pakistani joke about bindis.

Yes there is ... Continental started this last year. Quite convenient, if a bit long. A friend is actually in Beijing right now and we determined last week that his EWR-PEK flight is shorter than my EWR-DEL flight!

There's also direct flights from Chicago to Delhi (American) and Toronto to Delhi (Air Canada). Bombay, as far as I know, does not enjoy non-stop service from North America.

So, what is the Pakistani joke about bindis? :)

"All this time we Muslims have assumed that the red dot on Hindu women's foreheads has something to do with the Hindu religion. Not so, it develops. We are now informed by the Indian high commission that in fact the red dot has entirely to do with matrimonial customs. Unlike with us Muslims, the Indian marriage is consummated not by the commencement of marital relations, but rather by the new bridegroom taking a coin and scratching off the red dot. He then discovers what he has won: a gas station, a motel or a Subway franchise in New Jersey."
