This would certainly explain why the Irish have been fighting amongst themselves for so long--I mean, have you counted the number of types of Baptists in the Phone Book?

Was Pat an American Baptist, Southern Babdis', Freewill Baptist, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Baptist, Anabaptist, Baptist Bible Fellowship Baptist, Primitive Baptist (not a bad option--I doubt Pat had indoor plumbing), Reformed Baptist, Seventh Day Baptist, fried shrimp, shrimp gumbo (oops, wrong list!), General Association of Regular Baptists Baptist, National Baptist, Independent Baptist...

I can think of plenty of arguments for the original article's conclusions, but I think the overall lack of a teetotaling Irish tradition speaks for itself.
