Now, it seems, the next thing is to rehabilitate Judas. At least if this Ekklesia story (a UK-based, self-proclaimed radical think-tank. I tend to be suspicious of groups that say they have a "new way of thinking.") is to be believed.
Jusas Iscariot to get Vatican makeover.
Now, a campaign led by Monsignor Walter Brandmuller, head of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Science, is aimed at persuading believers to look kindly at a man reviled for 2,000 years, reports the newspaper. Mgr Brandmuller told fellow scholars it was time for a “re-reading” of the Judas story. He is supported by Vittorio Messori, a prominent Catholic writer close to both Pope Benedict XVI and the late John Paul II.If Vittorio Messori is involved, then it can't be too whacky. :-) And, in case, I always felt that Judas got a raw deal (yes, maybe I've seen Jesus Christ Superstar! too often!). I mean, if he didn't betray Jesus then what would that do to the whole Crucifixion, eh? :-)
[Besides, I had no clue that there was a Pontifical Committee for Historical Science. Academy of Sciences, yes. Social Sciences, yes. Historical science? Hmm .... no time to Google. Anyone wanna help?]

The Pontifical Committe for Historical Sciences is listed on the Vatican Website, but they don't have a link. I guess they are too "historically" minded to have a website.
