Incidentally, it is not only Kashmir that has been struck. The death toll in Northwest Frontier Province -- Mansehra and areas adjacent to Azad Kashmir -- is above 15,000. There are delegations of Islamabad and Quetta medical doctors volunteering their services; if your readers have any inclination to crack out their chequebooks for the Red Cross/Red Crescent they might consider doing as I did and earmarking their contributions for relief in NWFP, which is rather less glamorous than Kashmir but equally stricken. (And for your fellow staunch Catholics: the Islamic crescent represents the Blessed Virgin Mary :) )

Really? The woman clothed with the sun and the moon beneath her feet? Hmm
...

Good suggestion. Didn't know one could earmark funds that way -- I've made a donation to CRS.

No "hmmm" about it. She is the patron saint of Constantinople and when the sultan managed at last to snare Constantinople as the metropole for his dominions he adopted its symbol as his own. And being the Caliph his symbol was in due course adopted by most Muslim states. A nice little tease for our Muslim friends, but irrebutable when they wonder what THAT is doing on the wall of the Lady Chapel in RC and Anglican cathedrals!

Well live and learn. My "hmm" was more on the lines of "hmm -- I need to find out more" not "hmm -- I disagree" ... :)
